Duolingo AI Tutor is a Chrome extension that provides on-demand AI explanations for Duolingo lessons. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how users can contact us.

Information We Collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive basic account information such as your Google account identifier, email address, name, and profile picture. We use this information to create and manage your account.

The extension stores a session token, account email, settings, language preferences, and cached usage status in Chrome extension storage.

When you click the explanation button, the extension sends the visible Duolingo exercise content needed to generate an explanation. This may include question text, answer choices, selected answer, visible correct answer text, and configured language direction. Exercise content is not sent automatically.

We store usage counts, plan type, subscription status, and billing identifiers so we can enforce plan limits and provide subscription features.

Payments

Paid subscriptions are processed by Creem. We do not store full credit card numbers or payment card details. Creem may process billing information according to its own policies.

How We Use Information

We use collected information to provide AI explanations, authenticate users, track usage limits, manage subscriptions, diagnose reliability issues, and protect the service from abuse.

We do not sell user data, use user data for advertising, or use Duolingo exercise content to build advertising profiles.

Information Sharing

We share information only as needed to operate the service: Google for sign-in, our backend for account and usage processing, the AI model provider for explanation generation, and Creem for checkout and subscription events.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the security and integrity of the service.

Data Retention

We retain account, usage, and subscription records for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain billing records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. Exercise request content is processed to generate an explanation and is not intentionally used to create long-term learning profiles.

User Choices

You can sign out from the extension settings page, uninstall the extension, clear extension storage, or contact us to request deletion of account data associated with your email address.

Children's Privacy

Duolingo AI Tutor is intended for general language-learning assistance. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age required by applicable law without appropriate consent.
